A quick lesson in breathing.

A quick lesson in breathing.

Breathing is easy, correct? Correct, I thought you’d say that. But because it’s easy we take it for granted and it’s only when we have any trouble doing it that we become aware of it. When we stop doing it we lose consciousness and then maybe expire for good. Breathing is rather important then!

So why do many of us breathe so poorly? Why do many people survive by holding their breath and then quickly panting to the next one? Why?

Did you know that your breathing affects the way you think? Well why wouldn’t it because without breathing you will not think, will you?

Do you also realise that any action you take relies on and must have breathing? No breathing equals no actions!

OK, so what can improve your breathing if it’s so important?

Firstly, become conscious of your breathing. Are you holding your breath? Do you take short breaths or long breaths? What is the length in seconds of your breathing, in and out?

Secondly, start or continue training yourself to be conscious of your breathing. It’s well known that fitness training improves breathing among many other things.

Thirdly, do you use your diaphragm whilst breathing? If not, your breathing will be second rate as your diaphragm is a principal muscle for effective respiration.

There’s a lot to be said for breathing, so keep doing it.
