Determination, persistence and discipline

Determination, persistence and discipline

Whilst watching the male version of the ballet “Swan Lake” recently, I was struck by the sheer athleticism, power and gracefulness of the dancers. It demonstrated once again to me what wonderful things our species can achieve.

Learning, training, persistence and discipline can result in great things of immense beauty, just as I observed at the ballet. I’ve seen this in elite sport but to see it without so much “grunt” and with much more beauty was astounding to me.

What’s your “Swan Lake”? It’s a good question to ask yourself. Is it that you should lose weight, regain health and wellbeing, stop smoking or drinking, or start that study that you keep putting off? Or is it that you should treat your spouse, family or friends with more respect and compassion? Whatever it is, it can be achieved. It can be trained for. It will require persistence and discipline. But you can find some beauty in your life.

As I watched the performance I noticed many heads looking forward – one of those rare occasions in which everyone was together and looking in the same direction.

You can, if you choose, perform your own “Swan Lake”. All you need is determination, persistence and discipline - your academy award awaits.
